Madagascar Jr to hit school stage

Mueller College students have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming musical, which will be performed over two big shows this weekend.

The cast has been rehearsing every Wednesday after school for an hour and a half to prepare for DreamWorks’ animated motion picture Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr.

Producer Di Schmidt says the production is just as fun as the movie.

“Mueller’s version of this show is a little different. Our cast and crew are students from grade three to six and we’ve challenged ourselves with a little bit extra,” Di says.

“We have a live band playing all our favourite numbers, with bright, quirky and unexpected costumes and sets.

“There’s an ensemble cast of over 90 students and big dance numbers! The lighting design for this show is a standout and you might meet Elvis and see glimpses of the Statue of Liberty.”

The cast and crew have been working hard together over the past few weeks, and Di says the most exciting thing to see is the camaraderie.

“We are very intentional about creating a positive culture here and the musical does this for so many students, for the entirety of the musical journey and then beyond,” Di explains.

“The year-long process creates such strong friendships between the cast and crew and genuine fondness between students and teachers.

“The musical works because we have so many people sharing their talents with each other and we love celebrating each other’s gifts.”

Mueller College’s production of DreamWorks’ Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr will be held on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4.

Both shows will be held from 7-9pm at the Mueller Performing Arts Centre located at 75 Morris Rd, Rothwell.

Tickets are available here.

Tickets are $17 per person or $60 for a group of four.
