Plans have been lodged for a new 47-unit development of “affordable housing for women over the age of 55”, in Mango Hill.

A report by Urban Strategies for YMCA Brisbane said the development was for those experiencing “significant social or housing disadvantage, as part of a welfare structure supporting residents on their journey to self-determination”.

The application by YMCA Brisbane also includes an “educational establishment, indoor sport and recreation, shop, food and drink outlet and place of worship”.

Submitted to Moreton Bay City Council for approval, the plans are for land behind the current YMCA Mango Hill at 22 Halpine Drive.

The proposal is for six storeys with 35 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units, car and bicycle parking, storage and an entry off Linear Dr.

The development, if approved, will be “owned, managed and maintained by the YMCA”.

Plans show the gym, 61 parking spaces and half basketball court, at the rear of the current YMCA building, will be retained.

YMCA Mango Hill, which was built and opened in 2020, has a vocational school, community centre, shops and gymnastics centre.
