Makeover plan hits the road

Residents can now help Moreton Bay Regional Council shape the future of one of the busiest areas of Bongaree.

Council is planning a makeover of the section along Welsby Pde between the library, past First Ave to the waterfront cafes.

It will include resurfacing the road and footpaths, safer pedestrian crossings, new seating and signage and more shade.

Deadline date

Community consultation is open until December 7 for the public to comment on public artwork and road print patterns and put forward ideas.

“The Bongaree area is looking tired and in need of a rejuvenation,” says Councillor Brooke Savige (Div 1).

“Given the road will be due for a resurface in the coming years it is the perfect opportunity to give the area a makeover.

“The inclusion of fun elements such as bespoke seating, creative artwork and upgraded footpaths and additional planting for shade and amenity, will really refresh this popular area and bring it back to life.

“I look forward to seeing the outcome of the consultation and the concepts, images and colours the community supports.”

Relaxing aim

Council’s plans are aimed at retaining the area’s ‘relaxed character while investing in infrastructure which supports the numbers of people who want to explore the foreshore’.

These measures will ‘beautify the street’, make it easier for people to walk around the neighbourhood and provide ‘high-quality outdoor dining areas’.

The project is currently in the design phase with construction planned for late 2023.
