Manga Mini-Con comes to Moreton Bay

QBD Books is bringing its first Manga Mini-Con to the City of Moreton Bay in September as part of its Book Fest activation.

The inaugural Mini-Con has come to life because of the growing population of the manga genre in Australia in the last five years.

The event will be held in pop-up locations at QBD Books bookstore at Westfield North Lakes and Strathpine Centre from September 7-10.

Anime and manga fans can connect and unite over four jam-packed days full of manga giveaways, gift vouchers, cosplay competitions and manga/anime character standees.

QBD Books CEO Nick Croydon says the idea to start a Mini-Con was to provide the ‘feel of an Oz Comic-Con to people in suburban and regional areas’.

“There has been a continuing growth in the popularity of manga in Australia since 2017, when publishers Simon & Schuster picked up the media imprint for the US-based Viz manga titles, making this genre more readily accessible to Aussie consumers,” Nick explains.

QBD Books has ensured manga fans will have access to some of the most popular titles during Mini-Con, including Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia and more.

“(There will be) a special buy-one-get-one-half-price offer available on Viz titles. QBD staff will also get into the spirit by dressing in manga outfits to inspire attendees.”

The QBD Books Book Fest starts on August 17 and runs until September 10, with discounts on bestselling titles, author pop-ins, giveaways and gifts with selected purchases.
