Medicare Urgent Care Clinic opens in Deception Bay

Residents across Deception Bay and surrounding suburbs now have access to free, walk-in urgent healthcare with the opening of the Deception Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

The clinic, which opened in late December, is located at 75–79 Bailey Road, Deception Bay, and operates extended hours seven days a week, with no appointment required. All services at the clinic are bulk billed.

The opening follows an earlier update when the clinic was confirmed as a step closer to becoming a reality. You can read our previous coverage here.

How the clinic works

Staffed by highly trained doctors and nurses, the clinic is equipped to treat urgent but non-life-threatening conditions, including cuts, viral infections and sprains.

The Deception Bay clinic is expected to help ease pressure on Caboolture Hospital, where around 20 per cent of presentations in 2023–24 were for semi-urgent or non-urgent conditions.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler said the clinic would improve access to care for local families.

“The Deception Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is a game changer for families in Deception Bay region,” he said.

“The Deception Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will ease pressure on the emergency department at Caboolture Hospital and free up staff at the hospital to provide care to people with more serious conditions.

“This clinic is a key part of the Albanese Government’s commitment to strengthen Medicare and make health care more accessible and affordable.”

Part of a growing network

The Deception Bay clinic joins 18 existing Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Queensland, with a further seven planned to open across the state.

Nationally, the rollout aims to ensure four out of five Australians live within a 20-minute drive of a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

Since the first clinics opened in June 2023, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics have recorded more than 2.2 million patient visits nationwide, including more than 445,300 presentations in Queensland.

More than one in four patients were aged under 15, with over a quarter of visits occurring on weekends and another quarter during weekday after-hours periods.

Local Federal MP Emma Comer said the Deception Bay clinic would make a meaningful difference for the community.

“This clinic will make a real difference for locals by providing convenient, bulk billed urgent care right here in the heart of Deception Bay,” she said.

“The opening of the clinic is a huge win for our community, taking the pressure off the emergency departments at the Caboolture and Redcliffe hospitals.”

The Deception Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is commissioned by Brisbane North Primary Health Network.

Moreton Daily will continue to share updates as additional clinics are established across the City of Moreton Bay.
