Meet Moreton Bay's cutest dog

A five-month-old Pekingese from Burpengary has taken out the title of Moreton Bay’s cutest pet, winning Moreton Daily’s first ever city-wide competition, decided by public vote on social media.

Phébé, owned by Burpengary local Phoenix, beat a field of furry contenders from across the bay.

“She’s really polite in public, everyone loves her, but at home she’s a terror,” Phoenix said. “She’s naughty, she’s cheeky, and she jumps up and boxes at us.”

“Phébé is the absolute boss of our household,” Phoenix said. “She loves to bite fingers, but at the end of the day she’s very cuddly and a princess.”

Phébé is the family’s first Pekingese, after their previous dog, a pug, passed away.

“Phébé’s an absolute diva compared to our last dog,” Phoenix said.

The way to her heart, Phoenix said, is letting her bite your fingers until she’s tired herself out, then she’ll finally settle in for a cuddle.

She’s high-maintenance too, with a strict diet, daily eye and paw grooming, and weekly washes for her coat.

Her ideal day is a trip to the market for a treat and plenty of attention, before heading home to cause chaos, then cuddle up and crash.

Behind the prize: Pet Health Hub

Pet Health Hub was founded by Jo Jade after her own husky was injured, not badly enough for an emergency vet but enough to worry her.

“I remember thinking if I needed a doctor, I could simply open an app and book an appointment. Why isn’t there something like that for pets?” Jo said.

The Hub, which launched in April, helps Moreton Bay pet owners find a vet, groomer, walker or trainer, and runs a free lost pet register with QR-linked ID tags to reunite missing pets with their families faster.
