Fishing success runs in the family for Burpengary East siblings Alexis and Hunter Pittman, who have both reeled in first-place finishes at the Aussie Junior Fishing Classic.
The brother-and-sister duo topped the Tailor category in their respective age groups, with just 41mm separating the combined lengths of their winning catches.
Alexis claimed victory in the eight to 12 years division with two tailor measuring a combined 1171mm, while older sibling Hunter took out the 13 to 17 years division with a combined catch of 1130mm.
Their double success has been celebrated by organisers of the national competition, which encourages young anglers to get outdoors, develop their fishing skills and enjoy some friendly competition.
The Aussie Junior Fishing Classic (AJFC) is open to children aged three to 17 across Australia, with an app-based format allowing participants to submit their catches and compete against other young anglers regardless of where they live.
Five competitions are held throughout the year, with more than 15 categories offering prizes and opportunities for children of all experience levels to get involved.
AJFC owner Sam Cleland said the competition was about much more than catching fish.
"We want to give kids across Australia the opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy fishing, learn new skills and be part of a fantastic fishing community. It doesn't matter whether you're picking up a fishing rod for the very first time or you've been fishing for years – there's a place for everyone at the AJFC."
The next round begins on December 1, with multiple fishing categories and nightly prize draws.
