Jetty 2 Jetty enters new era

Jetty 2 Jetty is entering a new era, with a new name, growing international connections and early bird registrations now open for the 2027 event.

One of Queensland's longest-running running events will now be known as the Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon, putting the city front and centre as organisers look to attract more competitors from across Australia and overseas.

The new identity follows a record-breaking 40th anniversary in July, when 6000 runners from 12 countries and every Australian state and territory took part. It was also the first year the full marathon was open to the public, following an invitation-only debut in 2025.

The event has come a long way since it was started by Moreton Bay Road Runners in 1986, with the club still involved today. Its waterfront course takes runners from Clontarf through Woody Point, Redcliffe and Scarborough, with distances ranging from 3km to the full 42.2km marathon.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the new name would strengthen the event's connection to the city and help introduce it to new audiences.

"For 40 years, Jetty 2 Jetty has brought people together to celebrate fitness, community and our incredible waterfront. Adding Moreton Bay to the name gives this iconic event an identity that matches the destination it showcases."

The rebranding also comes as the event builds its international profile, including a sister marathon relationship with Japan's Shizuoka Marathon, established through growing ties between the two cities.

Tourism and Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the waterfront course, history and international partnerships provided a foundation for further growth.

"Destination marathons are built on a strong sense of place. Runners travel for the course, the scenery and the story, and now the name tells them exactly where that story happens," he said.

The event is also bringing visitors and business to the Redcliffe peninsula. Organisers estimate this year's race attracted 9462 participants and supporters, generating about 1830 visitor nights for local accommodation providers and businesses.

Attention has now turned to the 2027 event on Sunday, July 18, starting at Pelican Park, Clontarf.

Early bird registrations are open for the full marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km, wheelchair 10km, 5km and 3km events.

With the half marathon, 10km and 5km races all selling out in 2026, runners are being encouraged to secure their places early.
