Two independent Moreton Bay shops have been named in Queensland’s top 10 fruit and vegetable retailers.

Lawnton Country Markets and VC Fruit Market are among the state’s best in A better choice! Retailer of the Year – People's Choice Awards.

The awards recognise independent retailers for their commitment to customer service, advice and providing access to quality, fresh produce sourced through Brisbane Markets.

Lawnton Country Markets, on Gympie Rd, has been serving the Moreton Bay community for more than 40 years.

It has grown from a small roadside fruit shop into a thriving family business now spanning three generations, with a fourth generation preparing to join the business.

"Being recognised as one of Queensland's top independent fruit and vegetable retailers means a great deal to our family and team,” Manager George Macaron said.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support our customers and community have shown us by voting for our store.

"We visit the Brisbane Markets every morning to hand-select produce. Buying fresh each day allows us to maintain quality and freshness.”

“We have always believed in going the extra mile for our customers."

Richy and Neha Singh, owners of VC Fruit Market, on Ferny Way, Ferny Hills, credited their achievement to a dedicated team and loyal customers.

"As a small family-owned business, our biggest point of difference is the personalised service we provide,” Mr Singh says.

“We take the time to get to know our customers, help them choose the best produce and create a welcoming shopping experience where people feel part of the community.

"We visit the Brisbane Markets five days a week because we believe freshness starts with buying produce regularly rather than storing large quantities."

Brismark CEO and Brisbane Markets Limited Managing Director and CEO Andrew Young congratulated both retailers on their achievements.

"Retailers such as Lawnton Country Markets and VC Fruit Market demonstrate the important role independent fruit and vegetable stores play in supporting Australian growers while providing their communities with fresh, quality produce sourced through the Brisbane Markets,” he said.

Around 14,5000 votes were cast and Queensland’s winner, for a second successive year, was Erbacher's Fruit and Vegetables on the Sunshine Coast, which also claimed the national title.

Fresh Sensations Carindale and Fruity Life Nambour secured second and third place, respectively.

Other Queensland shops recognised for their contribution to communities, included Fresh Sensations Chermside, Mister Fresh Fruits, Toowoomba Fresh, Beemart Bundaberg and Harvest Markets, Yamanto.
