New car to tackle parking problem
A new patrol vehicle is now on the streets of Moreton Bay to help tackle cars which have overstayed or parked illegally.
The Moreton Bay City Council car is fitted with number plate recognition technology, GPS and high-resolution cameras to monitor regulated parking zones.
A City of Moreton Bay spokesperson said if a vehicle is found to have overstayed or parked illegally, the new car captures time stamped images and location data.
It is then reviewed by Council officers before an infringement notice is issued by post.
The new parking regulation patrol vehicle will operate in regulated areas including North Lakes, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Strathpine and Petrie.
“This is about making sure everyone has a fair go when it comes to finding a park and importantly supporting our local businesses by managing car park turnover,” the Council spokesperson said.
“The new parking monitoring technology is ultimately about delivering smarter parking solutions for our growing City.
“While our Parking Officers will continue some patrols on foot, this technology allows Council to better manage parking regulation zones for use by the whole community and also creates a safer work environment for our parking officers.”
With the population growth in City of Moreton Bay, Council is seeing demand for parking increasing.
“This smart technology will help us manage that demand while keeping our centres attractive and accessible for all,” the spokesperson said.
“This also helps local businesses and the community, by keeping car parks available and traffic flowing, enabling turnover in busy areas.”
The spokesperson said parking officers will continue some patrols on foot, but the technology allows better management of parking regulation zones and a safer work environment.
