Construction has officially started on a new over 50s community in Lilywood, the first development in the new city of Waraba.

A ceremonial sod turn was held on Friday by AVID Property Group, which held a similar ceremony in Logan Reserve.

The projects are part of the developer’s Vantage by AVID land lease portfolio, which includes nine other communities in Queensland and Victoria.

“We are proud to be officially underway with our two newest Vantage communities,” AVID General Manager - Queensland and Land Lease Communities Anthony Demiris said.

“With over 2500 residents already calling a Vantage community home, we know these neighbourhoods grow so quickly into hubs of community connectivity and comradery.”

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the sod turn was another milestone in the story of Waraba.

“With our population projected to reach one million people in the next 30 years, and more than 240 new residents moving here every week, City of Moreton Bay is entering an exciting era of growth and transformation,” he said.

“Waraba will play an important role in our City’s future by becoming a dynamic urban hub that will eventually accommodate some 70,000 residents.

“Ensuring greater housing diversity gives our residents access to homes that suit their needs across every stage of life, and this new development provides yet another choice at Waraba.”

With 35.4 per cent of Queensland’s population aged 50 and over, Vantage Lilywood will provide 296 new homes for this growing age.

Each house will be designed and delivered by Villaworld Homes, which received an “overwhelmingly positive response at Vantage Hervey Bay, according to AVID General Manager Housing Peter Wood.
