New play puts spotlight on bullying

Creative students converged on The Space @ North Lakes for a three-day theatrical workshop that culminated in a performance on the final day, which will be repeated for the community on May 22 as part of The Anywhere Festival.

The school holiday workshop, presented by Moreton Bay Region Libraries, The Space @ North Lakes, and Laughing Goat Productions, led participants through a creative process to develop a play – The Swipe - about cyber bullying and cyber safety based on real stories.

Special effects

Day one was spent developing the play, while on day two students had the chance to explore the world of special effects with industry professionals from Warner Brothers Movie World.

Special effects artists transformed participants, creating monsters, mock cuts, bruises, bites and bullet holes using prosthetics and skilfully applied make-up.

On day three, the students refined the script, rehearsed and performed for family and friends.
