New role for Moreton Bay Tourism boss

In a ‘significant milestone for the region’, Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism’s CEO Tash Wheeler has been appointed CEO of Queensland Tourism Industry Council.

Natassia, who has been at the forefront of the push for Moreton Bay to be featured more prominently in the Queensland tourism landscape, will finish with MBRIT on December 6 and start her new role on December 16.

QTIC Chair Elsa Dalessio says Natassia brings more than 19 years of experience in tourism and events to the role, along with a wealth of expertise and a track record of strong leadership, particularly within Queensland.

“She led strategic initiatives to drive regional growth, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and position Moreton Bay as Australia's newest destination,” Elsa says.

“Her experience in media engagement and stakeholder collaboration will be invaluable as she leads QTIC in advancing Queensland’s tourism sector.

“Previously, Natassia also served as CEO of Tourism Whitsundays, where she drove substantial growth in visitor expenditure and secured high returns on marketing investments.

“Her experience extends to advocacy, governance, and long-term partnership building, demonstrating her commitment to uniting and strengthening the tourism sector as a whole and making her a highly respected figure in the industry statewide.

“This appointment comes at a pivotal time for QTIC as we look forward to an exciting new chapter of growth and development with an eye on the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.”

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) Chair Ngaire Stirling says while she is sorry to see Natassia leave, her elevation is a “significant milestone for the Moreton Bay region”.

“For years, we have worked towards greater recognition within Queensland’s tourism landscape, and Tash’s appointment to a key leadership role in the state is a testament to her dedication and expertise," Ngaire says. 

"Her deep understanding of regional Queensland and her ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels will ensure that Moreton Bay’s voice continues to be heard and valued at the state level."

Ngaire also paid tribute to the difference Tash has made during her time at MBRIT.

“Since joining MBRIT, Tash has made an outstanding contribution to the organisation and our industry,” she says.

“Under her leadership, MBRIT has been restructured, refocused, and positioned on a solid path forward, consistently exceeding deliverables across our KPIs and contracts. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Tash for her dedication and achievements during her time with us and wish her all the best on this next chapter.

“MBRIT has a strong transition plan in place. The Board is confident in the interim leadership arrangements and structures that will ensure stability and continuity.

“Furthermore, Tash will remain involved with MBRIT in a volunteer capacity as a guest of the Board until June 30, 2025, to help guide the successful execution of our strategic priorities.”
