New Samford Hub a hive of activity
A host of community groups have a new space to call home, with the official opening of the $4.5 million Samford Community Hub precinct.
Among those to move into the new facility are the Samford Support Network, Samford RSL Sub-Branch Veteran Support Centre and Meals on Wheels Pine Rivers and District.
The project, jointly funded by the Federal Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council, will provide a home for community organisations and foster the next wave of innovation in the region’s hinterland through hireable office spaces.
Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton says opening the new state-of-the-art building is a highlight of a tumultuous 2020.
A place to call home
“This is huge for our community; local community organisations will finally have a permanent home base in Samford and there will be potential for start-up businesses to use office space to incubate and grow,” Mr Dutton says.
“There will also be common areas where people can meet friends, work on projects and host events for years to come.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack says the Government’s $2,225,250 investment in community infrastructure will provide long-term benefits to the Moreton Bay Region.
Long-term benefits
“This investment will produce many long-term social benefits to the region as it will house meeting rooms, offices, kitchen facilities, a common area and even see the building of a new car park and in addition support business incubation to drive economic growth and create local jobs,” Mr McCormack says.
“By supporting 30 jobs in construction and creating ongoing positions after completion, in addition to using local businesses and supplies, this project will help bring prosperity to Samford Valley for many years to come.”
Investment in community
Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery says Council’s $2,225,250 contribution was an investment in community vibrancy and jobs, at a time they’re needed most.
He says the Hub will be an important base for local organisations to continue the incredible work they do for the Samford community.
“This community hub will boost social connectedness in Samford whilst providing opportunities for a diverse range of activities, from a dedicated food distribution centre to a multiuse pavilion space and meeting rooms.
“I’d like to thank Mr Dutton and the Federal Government for making this important community project possible and their continued support across the Moreton Bay Region.”
Set in the heart of the beautiful Samford Parklands, Councillor Darren Grimwade (Div 11) says the new community space will become a thriving place for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
“We know the Samford Valley is a beautiful place to live because of the community-centred lifestyle, and now, thanks to this new world-class hub, it’s even a better place to work, live and play” Cr Grimwade says.
“After the tough year we’ve all had, being able to bring the Samford community together in this new world-class facility is something we’re proud to deliver with the Federal Government and grateful for their support.
“I’d also like to thank the Samford and Districts Progress and Protection Association for their successful expression of interest to lease the building and manage it on behalf of the community.”
