More than 5000 people took part in the Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon and Fun Run on Sunday, July 21 – running, walking or rolling in one of five categories.

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism CEO Tash Wheeler says the Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon and Fun Run has woven itself into South East Queensland’s culture.

“The Jetty 2 Jetty is more than just a fun run, it’s a tradition and a celebration of community, fitness and the natural beauty of Moreton Bay,” Tash says.

“Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a casual fun runner, the Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon and Fun Run is a must-do event on Australia’s running circuit.

“Set against the stunning backdrop of the Moreton Bay coastline, it’s no wonder athletes from the United Kingdom, the United States, France and New Zealand travel to Redcliffe to complete.”

Moreton Bay City Council Mayor Peter Flannery says Redcliffe, which recently won silver at the 2024 Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards, is the perfect backdrop for Queensland’s most scenic and longest-running fun run.

“Jetty 2 Jetty is one of the major drawcards for our city, attracting thousands of competitors and spectators to Moreton Bay’s spectacular coast each year,” Mayor Flannery said.

“The City of Moreton Bay is especially proud to support an event that not only showcases our beautiful coastline, but also demonstrates our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.”

Funds raised at the event will support The Breakfast Club Redcliffe.

Chairperson Michelle Gilchrist is grateful for the support to help fund services for people who are sleeping rough.

“We have been providing free meals, food assistance and support to the homeless since 2003,” Michelle says.

“The cost-of-living crisis sweeping Australia has meant there has been a surge in demand for our services.

“The funds raised from the Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon and Fun Run will help The Breakfast Club open a new facility and a Sleepbus, a mobile service that provides a safe, temporary accommodation service for those sleeping rough.”
