Plunge pools arrive at Sandstone Point resort

Three of six 5000L heated plunge pools were craned into the new swimmable lake at Sandstone Point Holiday Resort this week.

Today, the Comiskey Group has announced all six ‘overwater villas’, which are presently under construction, will each have their own heated plunge pool partially submerged in the lake, as well as an internal fireplace.

The lake and villas add to the resort’s facilities which include three heated swimming pools and swim-up bar.

The chemical-free lake is due for completion later this year and has been designed for human swimmers and biodiversity, incorporating pumps and injectors to ensure high oxygen levels and a constant water flow, to allow live fish and plant life to thrive.

The six new three-bedroom villas will overhang the lake. They will each have two bathrooms and an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with a fireplace.

The living space will open out to a deck and outdoor dining area with its own heated plunge pool and barbecue. A ladder hangs from the deck, offering direct access to the natural swimming hole.

Taking shape

Comiskey Group Director David Comiskey has been overseeing the development.

“The lake itself is a massive project but it’s really exciting seeing it all come together. There’s been plenty of action onsite this week,” David says.

“We hired a crane to start installing the plunge pools. Three have gone in this week with the remaining pools going in next week.

“The pools are 5.2 tonne, pre-cast and fully tiled. They’ve also got a seat inside as well as Jacuzzi jets.”

Fellow Director Rob Comiskey believes the lake project will be a major drawcard for guests and expects the new ‘overwater villas’ to be in high demand all year around, with the waitlist growing.

“We have had over 12,000 people sign up to the waitlist to be the first to know when they can book to stay in these new villas. This was before we even announced any of their exciting features.

“It’s a really special project, something you’d expect in the Maldives, not 45 minutes outside of Brisbane CBD.”

Huge interest

When the Comiskey Group announced the ‘overwater villas’ and swimmable lake development earlier this year, it received a huge influx of enquiries and media attention.

It decided to take the offering to the next level and believes the addition of the plunge pools will do just that.

“We wanted to make the ‘overwater villas’ extra special. There were only so many we could fit around the lake and still provide enough privacy for each. It was important to us that we make the most of their amazing location on the lake, ensuring they are a great option all year around,” Rob says.

“The plunge pools are a touch of luxury but most importantly, it’s a feature that can be enjoyed by the whole family.”

The lake will be open to all guests, but those staying in the ‘overwater villas’ will have exclusive use during certain periods of the day.
