Police dogs brush up their skills
Police dogs were put through their paces in a recent scenario-based training exercise at a Narangba car wreckers.
Moreton Dog Squad Officer in Charge Sergeant Jason Austin says handlers take their dogs through different aspects of training each week to develop their confidence and abilities.
The visit to Narangba was aimed at honing their skills in apprehending an offender in a vehicle.
“The purpose of these scenarios, in addition to replicating previous deployments, is to expand the dogs’ capability in close confines and on slippery, metallic surfaces,” Sgt Austin says.

“In all instances we socialise the dogs with the environment before introducing the person, address any potential issues, and provide a successful outcome for the dog.”
During the exercise, the Police dogs are introduced to walking on a car, firstly on a mat, and then shown how to enter a car.
Police dog Luger received the honours for the day, showing no hesitation to jump through a car window to apprehend his offender, with officers wearing special training suits to protect them.
