'Priority' for Moreton Bay homes

North Harbour is to be declared a Priority Development Area (PDA) for more than 3700 new homes in the next 15 years.

The announcement was made today by Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie.

He has directed Economic Development Queensland to prepare a brief for Governor in Council approval for Queensland’s newest PDA at Burpengary East.

The State Government – in partnership with City of Moreton Bay - aims to boost housing supply, deliver new housing options and ease the housing crisis.

North Harbour’s PDA will also boost the local economy with a new marina and associated industry as well as retail, tourism and hotel facilities.

The PDA is expected to generate almost 2000 jobs and add $456 million into the regional economy.

“We are unlocking land to deliver more housing for Queenslanders, while funding critical infrastructure and axing stamp duty for first homeowners on new builds,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“We’re resetting the planning partnership with local councils and communities to deliver new housing in the right locations.”

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the PDA declaration for North Harbour was a welcome boost that would inject millions into the local economy.

“The construction of apartments and standalone housing will further boost the economy and provide another option for people looking to live in City of Moreton Bay,” he said.

“The development of a marina at the site will unlock a new local marine industry, from boatbuilding to repairs, generating more skilled employment opportunities for our residents.”

Once the PDA is declared an Interim Land Use Plan (ILUP) will come into effect until the Development Scheme is in place.

The ILUP will include an Early Release Area for up to 200 new homes. Development applications for this can be lodged right away under the ILUP.

North Harbour is already home to 3000 residents and recognised as one of five significant projects in the City of Moreton Bay Regional Economic Development Strategy 2020–2041.
