Redcliffe Golf Club has brought home one of the biggest prizes from the 2021 Queensland Golf Industry Awards.

The Hutchinson Builders Redcliffe Pro-Am was named Tournament of the Year at a gala night on the Gold Coast.

With a $60,000 purse, the two-day pro-am in July was one of the richest in Australia and attracted the “best field ever assembled” at Redcliffe.

'Absolutely delighted'

Award judges considered the course condition, organisation, prizes, event attractions, list of entrants and ability to get sponsors in making their decision.

It adds to the fairy-tale of the tournament which was won Doug Klein, who works at Redcliffe Pro Shop, with rounds of 63 and 68 to beat Nathan Barbieri by one shot.

“We are absolutely delighted and humbled to receive the highest award for running a tournament in only our second year of bringing professional golf back to Redcliffe,” Director of Golf Chris Adnams said.

Team effort

“This was a huge team effort and wouldn’t have been a success without the dedication of our staff and the support of the sponsors and members at the club.

“This one’s for everyone involved to celebrate together."

The tournament, which started in 2019 but missed 2020 due to COVID-19, will be back at Redcliffe next year with organisers hoping to make it bigger and with more prize money.
