The speed limit along Prince Edward Pde between Redcliffe and Scarborough will be reduced to 50kmh following pleas from residents and body corporates.
Announcing the change on social media, Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) said pedestrian refuges would also be installed along the busy stretch of road.
“I’m pleased to spread the good news to local residents that both of these requests are going to happen,” Cr Winchester says.
Slowing traffic
He says a review of the speed limit, which considered factors such as road function, existing vehicle speeds and volumes, roadside activity and crash statistics, has been finalised.
“The outcome was support for the speed to be reduced to 50kmh along the entire length of Prince Edward Pde.
“I had advocated for 40kmh (but) ultimately, due to various factors, the review committee (which included Moreton Bay Regional Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the State Government) endorsed 50kmh.
He says Council will install several pedestrian refuge islands to increase safety and act as a traffic management treatment to reduce vehicle speed.
“Thank you to all residents who contacted or met with me regarding the speed limit issue and for providing feedback on crossing locations,” Cr Winchester says.
