Region's newest supermarket opens

The new Peninsula Asian Supermarket, at Redcliffe, had a double celebration today - holding its official opening at the start of the Chinese New Year.

A traditional dancing lion and music marked the supermarket’s launch at Bluewater Square shopping centre, on the corner of Sutton St and Anzac Ave.

Owner David Baiya has lived in the area for more than 10 years and said he wanted to show locals the Asian products he could provide.

International fare

“We have everything international …. Asian products like seafood, frozen, Asian veggies, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Philippine, Malaysian,” he said.

“People are saying to us they never had this shop before. Normally they had to go to China Town in the city, or Sunnybank on the southside, to buy things for cooking.

“That’s why we wanted to open here.”

Exciting times

Peninsula Asian Supermarket, which has entrances from the inside and outside of Bluewater Square, had a soft opening to help staff and quiz customers.

“We wanted to find out what customers want us to bring here and what they are looking for cooking at home,” says David.

“It’s going well, people are excited and we will keep changing to work with the customers on what they need or want.”

David has a staff of 4-5 and Peninsula Asian Supermarket will open 8.30am-8pm Monday-Saturday and 9am-6pm on Sundays.
