Revved up over motorsport plan

Proposals for a new $20 million motorsport park in Moreton Bay have been welcomed – with calls for even more tracks.

Corbet’s Group, the Gympie-based, family-owned haulage company, is behind the plan on land between Bribie Island Rd and Beachmere Rd.

Moreton Motorsport Park would cater for such as speedway, motocross, sprint cars, dirt track, solos, dirt karts, super sedan and modifieds.

Corbet’s see an urgent need for such a facility following the closure of circuits and clubs across South-East Queensland.

There are also plans to "reach out to the motorsport community for feedback to create the best tracks possible".

Most comments on the Moreton Daily Facebook page support the motorsport park  Some didn’t, while others had additional suggestions.

“This will be so fantastic for the area,” Ariane Fudge said, “typically, motor enthusiasts have had to travel distances to attend these types of events.

“Benefits to the Moreton area for tourism dollars will be substantial with spectators from all over Queensland and interstate. Thoroughly support this proposal!”

Rob Hamilton said: “Bring it on, how good will this be for all young drivers in Moreton Bay and Brisbane.”

Brett Pearson added: “I ride dirt bikes with my kids, we love it, can’t wait to access the track if it’s available non-race days - whatever it cost, we’re there.”

Colin Apelt wrote: “I think between Pumicestone Rd and Old Toorbul Rd would be a great spot. Far enough away from new estates.”

With Auskart Racing at Lakeside in mind, Darren Grimwade posted: “What about a state-of-the-art go-kart track!

“We have the largest four-stroke karting club in Australia based in the Moreton Bay region and are forced to travel to Warwick, Bundaberg, Gympie and Ipswich to compete.”

Noel Bishop supported the motorsport park plan “as long as we can also race the speedway cars there as well, like at Archerfield”.

However, Phil Haskett saw future issues with “residents, who build after the complex is up and running, complain enough to get it shut down … like at Lakeside”.

Kevin Dwyer believes it “won’t happen, Greens will stop it,” while Richard Lancaster asked “what about the once much-vaunted sports museum and a state-of-the-art arts gallery?

“Are we to be subjected to loud, noisy, polluting, crash bang sport? It has limited appeal! Can think of nothing worse!”
