Work will start next month to improve safety on a well-used Samford road due to its ‘crash history’.
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says upgrades on two sections will start mid-November on 120m of the Samford-Mount Glorious Rd , between Parkwood Dr and Days Rd West in Samford Valley.
A guardrail will be installed as well as a motorcyclist protection rail on the westbound road shoulder as protection from roadside hazards.
Work on the project - funded by the State Government's Targeted Road Safety Program - will be done Monday to Friday, from 6am-6pm.
TMR will also do slope stabilisation work on the same road, around 8kms west of the guardrail work to stabilise an area of embankment.
North Coast Regional Director Scott Whitaker said the project would take about six weeks.
“The section of Samford-Mount Glorious Rd near Parkwood Drive was identified for safety improvements due to its crash history, which tragically included a fatality in 2017,” he said.
“Road safety is TMR's top priority and the 6000 motorists who use this road daily will benefit from these important safety improvements.
"Motorists may experience delays when temporary single-lane closures are implemented.
"We thank the community in advance for their cooperation and patience.”
Traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and road signs will be in place during the work to ensure road worker and motorist safety.
"It is vital motorists observe all signs when approaching the roadworks and adapt their driving behaviour to the changed traffic conditions,” Mr Whitaker said.
