Samford target for national titles

Samford is preparing to host Archery Australia’s 2023 National Target Championships for a second successive year.

The championships will at Samford Valley Target Archers’ grounds on Mount Samson Rd from September 27-October 2.

Last year’s successful event saw 240 archers register for 576 shooting spots in three tranches of competition.

This year’s tournament is set to be bigger with 230 archers already registered for more than 600 shooting spots in three rounds of competition.

Registrations remain open until August 31 with competitors coming from across Australia, and from Fiji and New Zealand.

Two archers have registered as Egyptian but are possibly already resident in Australia.

Spectators are welcome, though a pair of binoculars will help to follow the action.

Bows will range from longbows, through barebows (no sights), Olympic recurve bows and compound bows.

Day one, September 27, will be a practice day, followed by rounds of 144 arrows on September 28 and 90-arrow rounds on September 29.

The following days will use scheduling similar to that of Olympic games with ranking rounds to select who goes into the elimination matches in various grades.

The final day, October 2, will see the medal matches completed for teams and individual archers.

Samford Valley Target Archers are indebted to Moreton Bay City Council for grant funding, State and Federal Governments for help upgrading facilities and support from Samford District Development and Progress Association.
