Silver lining for Polo Bears

North Brisbane Polo Bears medaled three times at the Water Polo Queensland State Titles on the Gold Coast (January 19-25).

There was one silver and two bronze for the club based at Albany Creek, but with players from across the Moreton Bay Region and a number at Redcliffe schools.

Polo Bears were “very happy” with the performance of all teams at the tournament and recording “some great results”.

Silver lining

The Under 14 Boys, main picture, swept through their round-robin stage and into the final where they had to settle for silver. However, Tian Markart was named best goalkeeper in the division.

Polo Bears’ Open Women, including Redcliffe student Jaden Weir, brought home bronze medals and in Charlize Andrews had the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

The Under 16 Girls, which included Grace Lutheran College’s Tiana Doyle and Abbie Mcdonald and Phoebe Dobson, of Mueller College, brought home bronze medals while the Under 18 Girls won their final match to finish fifth.

Shoot out

In the Under 14 Girls, Polo Bears’ Maroon team lost a penalty shoot out in the semi-finals and lost to a goal in the dying seconds of their bronze-medal match.

However, their fourth place was creditable having been ranked sixth entering the titles at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

There was a similar story from the Under 14 Girls White, where the Polo Bears also lost their bronze medal match and finished fourth.
