Special event for dogs, dog lovers

Dog lovers this is one for you, we’ve got the ultimate dog-friendly event in Moreton Bay.

On Sunday, July 23 leash up your favourite furry pal and make your way down to Penson Park at Kallangur for the pawfect event for all dog lovers and their pets to spend a relaxing morning together in the sun.

At Pooches in the Park we celebrate our four-legged friends at an event featuring pet-themed market stalls, a doggy makeover station, activities for dogs, food trucks for humans and doggy ice cream for our non-human companions, live music and a demonstrations zone.

Back by popular demand is Pupper Picasso run by Bippity Boppity Boutique, where dogs can unleash their inner artist and create a masterpiece on canvas.

A new addition to the event this year is the Doggy Makeover Station run by Stylist to the Dogs, where dogs can be treated to a little pampering by having their nails painted or colour streaked in their ears.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the launch of Pooches in the Park in 2022 was a runaway success, so Council’s making it even bigger this year.

“We’ve added a ‘Doggy Makeover Station’ to ensure your pets looking paw-fect for Instagram and Council rangers will be giving away freebies and pet care advice at our ‘Pets in Public Spaces’ pop-up van,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Dogs of all sizes are welcome, in fact we have a dedicated ‘Big Dog Friendly Activity Zone’ to ensure the big fellas don’t feel like they’re missing out.

“Just remember that your dogs must remain on a lead at all times, unless in a designated off-leash area.”

Cr Yvonne Barlow (Div 7) says it is a free event celebrating the community’s furry family members, in the heart of Kallangur at Penson Park.

“This event has special meaning for me because my dog passed away last year, so I’ll be there to get plenty of cuddles,” she says.

“It’s without question the cutest event we have on our social calendar and a great insta-opportunity with your pet.

“Honestly you can’t help but smile when you’re there - there is a market selling pet products, live music, a community sausage sizzle and food trucks which even have doggy ice cream and treats available to spoil your pooch.

“I love that events like these bring our community together, and I’m proud to be part of a Council that’s responded to your calls for more events and activations in our suburbs.”

Music and demonstrations

Make sure to check out the pet-themed market stalls, filled with variety of pet products, accessories, and tasty treats your dog will love.

If that’s not enough stop by the doggy ice cream station where your pet can indulge in a delicious frozen treat.

It’s not all about dogs. There will be a musical line providing a great atmosphere featuring the local talents of Josh Crawford, Amber Worthington, Natasha Rose and Asa Broomhall.

Grab a spot under the shade and laze back to enjoy the beautiful music.

The Demonstrations Zone will be back in 2023 - head over to watch expert trainers showcase fun and interactive activities you can do with your dog.
