Special picnic at new $6m parkland

The first phase of a $6 million parkland project in the City of Moreton Bay has been completed and residents are invited to join a special picnic today.

A ribbon was cut this week at Riverbank’s Lightwood Parkland, which is part of a 150-hectare development at Caboolture South.

Councillor Adam Hain (Div 3) and State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan were joined by Mayor Peter Flannery and Riverbank Project Director Jonathon Lawson to unveil the project.

To celebrate the milestone, Peet is inviting locals to a Picnic at the Parklands at 11am today to see the parklands over a free sausage sizzle with additional food vans and entertainment,.

“With over 25 hectares of green space and outdoor facilities, we’re excited to finally unveil phase one of the evolving Lightwood Parklands,” Mr Lawson said.

“The parklands are set to become Riverbank’s largest amenity, highlighting Peet’s continued investment into both the community and the region more broadly.”

Mayor Peter Flannery said: “This Council believes in building communities, not just homes, and what we’re seeing here is a developer with the vision to do the same.

“Riverbank’s well-connected community design and amenities, such as the new Lightwood Parklands, demonstrate how we can create better and greener communities by prioritising landscape architecture, green space, and tree plantings from the outset.

“I hope these impressive new parklands will see Riverbank become a thriving hub in the northern corridor of City of Moreton Bay.”

Riverbank has 4-leaf accreditation from the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s national Enviro Development program for its commitment to sustainability in water, energy, ecosystems, and community.

Lightwood Parklands is set for completion in 2025 with the remaining stages rolling out over the next two years which include walking and cycling tracks and river access.
