Sports stars at women's day lunch

Two elite athletes and a renowned media personality are guest speakers at North Lakes Sports Club’s first International Women’s Day lunch next week.

Australian Paralympic swimmer Katja Dedekind, pictured above, and Rugby League World Cup winning Jillaroo Karina Brown will share their sporting stories.

Donna Lynch, whose career has taken in radio, national television, hosting major awards and interviewing top celebrities, will be the MC.

The lunch is on Wednesday March 8 – International Women’s Day – from 11am-2.30pm with a three-course alternate drop meal, beverage package and live entertainment.

Katja Dedekind's achievements last year propelled her into the global spotlight.

She won gold and two silver medals at the World Para Championships and then gold and set a world record in the women’s 50m freestyle S13 at the Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old has the Australian Sports Medal, Patron’s 2022 Paralympic Program Swimmer Award, 2022 Queensland Sport Athlete with a Disability Award and in 2021, University of Sunshine Coast Sportsperson of the Year.

Rugby league star Karina Brown

Karina Brown knows what it takes to succeed at the top level. She has been captain and a regular team member for Queensland over the last decade.

The 33-year-old was a mainstay in the title-winning 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cup Jillaroos squads and played for the Roosters for the first NRLW Grand Final.

Brown has used her platform as a professional athlete to advocate for gender equality in sports and is an ambassador for the WeAreWomen campaign.

Donna Lynch has spent more than 30 years in radio, television and print media during which she co-hosted Saturday Morning Live on Channel 7, was on top-rating breakfast radio show = B105 and co-hosted the first Channel 9 Footy Show.

She now hosts weekday mornings on Breeze FM (broadcasting throughout Queensland and regional New South Wales and runs her own promotions, marketing and events company.

Donna Lynch has interviewed the likes of Dame Edna Everage, Charlton Heston, KD Lang, Bob Hawke, Gough Whitlam and John Howard.

Tickets for the event are $150 per person or $1500 for a table of 10. Guests also get champagne, a lucky door ticket, and small gift on arrival.

All proceeds will be donated to the first Wamuran Women’s Shed.
