Stage set for Addams Family musical

The curtain will go up this week on St Benedict’s College’s latest production of The Addams FamilyA New Musical Comedy.

Students will be signing, dancing and acting from tomorrow to Saturday (October 4-7) in the Mango Hill college’s eighth production.

The show, in St Benedict’s Primary Hall, follows Gomez and Morticia Addams as they come to terms with the fact daughter, Wednesday, has grown up and wants to get married.

Wednesday’s fiancé, Lucas Beineke, is bringing his parents over to meet the Addams in the hope everyone will get along, so they can formally announce their engagement.

Year 12 student Eli Ball, who has performed in more than 60 musicals and plays and is one of three pupil choreographers working on the show, is Gomez Adams.

Playing Morticia Addams is Sienna Randall, from Year 11, who has worked with Queensland Musical theatre, Brisbane Arts Theatre, Redcliffe Musical theatre and Brisbane Junior Theatre.

Wednesday is played by Year 8 student Madeleine York who has been in many musical productions and earlier this year was Dory in the Queensland Premiere of Finding Nemo Jr.

Alice Beineke is played by Makenzi Goodwin who has performed with the National Gondwana Choir at the Sydney Opera House.

Playing Lucas Bieneke is Theo Hunt, who was recently in Alice – a Journey through Wonderland at Brisbane Arts Theatre and will be off to the US in 2024 with the Junior Theatre Festival Team.

The iconic role of Uncle Fester is taken by Miguel Gambley who is a regular on stage and was in the recording of the first Australian Broadway musical, Dot and the Kangaroo Jr.

Well-known Addams Family characters of Lurch, Pugsley and Grandma Addams are also in the show and supported by 30 ancestors made up of students from Years 7–12.

Directors Paula-Mary Camilleri and Teagan Fudge have directed the last four musicals together and worked with the cast on this show for months.

Vocal director Jenna-Maree Woodforth is behind the impressive harmonies the cast have managed in the music.
