Sweet win for OMG! Decadent Donuts
OMG! Decadent Donuts has claimed four awards at the Baking Association of Australia Excellence in Baking Awards.
The business, which has pop-up stalls across Moreton Bay thanks to franchise owner Mike Mason, won gold, silver and bronze in the Best Gourmet Donut category and silver for Best Cinnamon Donut.
North West area OMG! Decadent Donuts owners Noel, Monique and Jacinta Collison run pop-up stalls at Arana Hills Plaza, Eatons Hill Village, the Samford CWA Hall and Marketplace Warner.
All-natural
Noel says the business is thrilled with the wins.
“Our customers are always telling us that our donuts are the best, and that’s what we think too, but now we can tell our customers they are 100 percent confirmed as being correct,” Noel says.
He says winning the awards was extra sweet because judging for the Baking Association Australia Awards is based on ‘blind tasting”, meaning the panel of top chefs set with the task of determining the best donuts in the land, had no way of knowing the winning donuts were free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts and sulphites, 100 percent natural and vegan.
Winning combination
OMG! Decadent Donuts took out the gold award for its Spicy Ranga donut, which features a combination of ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, cloves.
Dusty Queen, flavoured with orange and cinnamon won silver, while Coffee Yum Yum was awarded bronze.
The business was established by restaurateur David Moore and co-directors Andrew Clarke, Steven Morris and Diane O’Reilly, offering delectable treats that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences.
“OMG! We’ve won these huge awards against a vast number of ‘normal’ donuts,” David says.
Inclusive treats
“Gluten free and vegan bakery products often get a bad rap with the assumption that the taste and texture is inferior to regular bakery items. Winning these awards is a clear demonstration that this is not the case.
“Research indicates that people with strict dietary requirements often face feelings of exclusion and anxiety.
“By offering a product that just about everyone can enjoy regardless of dietary requirements fosters inclusivity and belonging.”
