Tara’s mum to speak at breakfast

The mother of Tara Brown, a young woman murdered by her partner in 2015 will be the guest speaker at the Zonta Club of Redcliffe’s Coercive Control Awareness Breakfast on November 25.
The event at The Komo starts 16 days of activism and will be held on the United Nations’ day for the elimination of violence against women.
Tickets are selling fast, with reservations due by close of business, November 18.
The Tara Brown Foundation is the legacy of a young mother who died in September 2015 at the hands of her partner in an horrific act of domestic violence. In 2017, Lionel Patea was convicted and handed a life sentence for Tara’s murder.
Tara had a large and supportive extended family and was an accomplished touch football player. Her family’s message is … if it could happen to her, it could happen to anyone.
She left behind a young daughter, who is now being cared for by her grandmother Natalie Hinton, pictured above.
Natalie will share her family’s story and deliver a powerful message during the Zonta Club of Redcliffe breakfast.
She will also speak about The Tara Brown Foundation which raises money to upgrade and assist refuges and women’s shelters, and other organisations that help women and their children escape violent and controlling partners.
During the event, the Zonta Club of Redcliffe will also launch its domestic violence awareness video which they hope to play at local sporting codes’ DV awareness matches.
