Taskforce set-up for Old Petrie Town

A taskforce is being set-up to oversee the transition of Old Petrie Town from Y Queensland back to City of Moreton Bay.

The Councillor Taskforce will establish several options for the site’s future based on a detailed review already underway.

Taskforce members are Councillors Darren Grimwade (Div 11), Adam Hain (Div 3), Yvonne Barlow (Div 7), Jim Moloney (Div 8) and Cath Tonks (Div 9).

In September, City of Moreton Bay and Y Queensland agreed a six-month extension, to the latter’s management of Old Petrie Town, taking it to June 30, 2025.

Y Queensland is now working to similarly extend all lease arrangements with tenants so businesses can trade up to, and during, the busy Christmas period.

Council and Y Queensland can also keep supporting commercial and community leaseholders who have extended sub-leases, as the site transitions back to Council.

The review of Old Petrie Town will enable Council to better understand the best way forward and how Old Petrie Town can continue to benefit the community.

The taskforce will consider site updates by Council officers and external advisers to present findings for Council to consider. Stakeholders will be kept informed throughout.

City of Moreton Bay leases the land at 901 Dayboro Road known as Old Petrie Town to Y Queensland.

Y Queensland has been on the site since 1998 and held the head-lease for the site since 2005, managing sub-leasing and sub-licensing during this period.

Currently, all sub-leasing arrangements are the responsibility of Y Queensland.
