Aussie Test and Qld stars coming to Peninsula for centenary T20
A host of Australian and Queensland greats will turn back the clock at Peninsula Cricket Club’s Filmer Park ground on Saturday, August 7.
The Queensland Bulls Masters are taking on a representative team from the Warehouse Cricket Association (WCA) to mark its 100th anniversary.
The Centennial Twenty20 game, to be played under the ground’s new floodlights, will be the culmination of two days of celebrations for the WCA.
Test stars
Bulls Masters are hoping to include former Test stars Andy Bichel and Ryan Harris alongside Queensland regulars Joe Dawes, Luke Feldman, Nathan Reardon and Bryce Street.
Also, Ken Healey, Gavin Fitness and Charlie Hemphrey and two local juniors who will be invited to play for the Bulls.
The team is being put together by former Queensland captain Jimmy Maher, who is managing director of the Bulls Masters.
No brainer
“It is a pleasure to be involved (in the centenary celebrations),” said Maher. “When we were asked it was a no brainer.
“The Bulls Masters are happy to help acknowledge the great work the Warehouse Cricket Association does.
“All the volunteers – people like Laurence (Christie) and Bruce (Hintz) - have been stalwarts of Queensland cricket.
Congratulations
“I don’t think I could do all the programming and scheduling work they get through.
“We’ve all been given great opportunities in cricket thanks to wonderful volunteers.
“It’s only right we help congratulate WCA on its milestone.”
Gala dinner
The Warehouse Cricket Association has a gala dinner at The Gabba on Friday August 6 and its Centenary Celebration Day at Filmer Park on August 7.
There will be C Grade and Over 40s Twenty20 games before the Bulls Masters face a WCA representative team.
The main match at Filmer Park will be at 6pm. Gates open 4pm. Entry is free. There will be food vans and children’s rides.

Bulls Masters
Andy Bichel – Played 19 Test matches and 67 one-day internationals for Australia from 1997-2004. Right-arm medium-fast bowler, hard-hitting lower-order batsman.
Joe Dawes - Right-arm fast bowler. Cemented his place in Queensland 2001-02 until injury ended his career in 2005 with 238 first-class wickets. In 2012 became India’s bowling coach and 2018 head coach of Papua New Guinea.
Luke Feldman – Played state and limited overs cricket for Queensland from 2009-2019. Also played in the Big Bash for Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder and Sixers, Hobart and Melbourne Stars.
Ryan Harris – Former South Australia, Queensland and Australian Test fast bowler. Took more than 100 Test wickets and had a highest score of 74. Became bowling coach of Brisbane Heat and in 2020 Dehli Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
Charlie Hemphrey – Plays club cricket for Sandgate-Redcliffe and became a regular in the Queensland side 2018-19. Also played for UK county sides Kent and Essex.
Nathan Reardon – Played for Queensland, Northern Districts (NZ) and made two Twenty20 appearances for Australia in 2014. Big Bash League sides included Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers.
Bryce Street – Made his Queensland debut in 2019, two weeks after scoring an Australian 2nd XI record 345 against Victoria. Awarded a full Queensland contact for 2020-21.
Ken Healy – Played one first-class and one A List match for Queensland. Is brother of former Australia Test wicketkeeper Ian.
Gavin Fitness – Played three first class and four List A matches for Queensland between 1993 and 2001.
