The Lakes pushing for top

Technical director Craig Moorhouse says The Lakes FC is not in the Brisbane Premier League (BPL) just “making up the numbers”.

The Lakes will complete a remarkable rise from Capital League 3 in 2018 to the top flight in 2021 when Acacia Ridge arrive at the Kinsellas Sports Complex on March 7.

“We have made a number of signings and have a good number of the players back from last season,” said Moorhouse.

Pushing for top

“We feel we have a competitive squad and are looking to push for the top end of the table. We’re not there making up the numbers.”

Josh Fearn, the captain and backbone of the side for several years, is among those to have re-signed and has been joined by Daniel Fogerty, from New South Wales. Both are pictured in the indigenous team shirts above.

Fogerty has played for the Australian Futsal team for 10 years including two World Cups finals. He has also played in NSW NPL1, 2 and 3, winning NPL2 Premierships twice.

Both players will feature at AJ Kelly Park on February 27 when Peninsula Power take on the national Indigenous women’s and men’s teams at 5pm and 7pm respectively. Power’s Masters team will face the South Coast Jummalungs, a NSW Over 35s side, in the curtain-raiser at 3pm.

Pathway

The Lakes is also working hard on continuity and creating a development pathway for junior players to the senior side.

Latest product Luke Riddell, who started in the Under 14s, made his senior debut in the 4-0 FFA Cup SEQ Preliminary Round Two victory over North Brisbane this month. Fogerty also scored.

The Lakes and University of Queensland (UQ) are also the only clubs to have men’s and women’s teams in Brisbane Premier Leagues for 2021.

Coach Cath Smyth will be aiming to recapture the form of 2019 when The Lakes won the BPL Premiership, just 12 months after lifting the Capital League title and only three years after the women’s team started!

The Lakes Under 14 Boys’ are in Brisbane’s Youth Premier League (BYPL) this season and the Under 12s have been nominated for their age group.
