Trio in Aussie team for US invitational
Three junior fighters from the All Star Boxing Academy (ASB), in Lawnton, will this weekend start their journey to one of America’s top tournaments.
Taj Harrington, Darcy O’Malley and Paul Utia Jnr will step into the ring at the 48th Gene Lewis Invitational on November 10-12.
All three are members of the Australian junior team selected for one of the longest running and most prestigious competitions in the US.
Harrington will fight in the 41kg division, O’Malley at 54kg and Utia in the 75kg section at the Broadway Recreation Centre in Mesa.
It follows a big ASB Pro-Am Fight Night at Norths Leagues Club in Kallangur on Saturday which featured 27 bouts and attracted more than 1000 spectators.
The 18 amateur fights were headlined by world number five Jye Dixon, from ASB, who won a comfortable decision against a fighter from the famous Stretton gym, home of Jeff Horn.
ASB had seven other amateurs in action and finished with six wins from eight fights. There were also five corporate and four professional bouts.
“We are very happy with the support from the boxing fans and local community,” All Star Boxing Academy owner and coach Ben Harrington said.
