The Comiskey Group took home three awards including the hotly coveted title of “Australia’s Best Overall Hotel of the Year” for Sandstone Point Hotel at the 2022 Australian Hotels Association Awards for Excellence on Monday night.
The ceremony marked the second time the group has won “Overall Hotel of the Year” at the national awards - the first being in 2016, months after Sandstone Point Hotel first opened.
The group with multiple award-winning venues in the Moreton Bay Region came away with three national titles at the industry’s night of nights held in Hobart, Tasmania including “Australia’s Best Marketed Hotel” for Sandstone Point Hotel and “Australia’s Best Meetings & Events Venue” for Eatons Hill Hotel.
Comiskey Group Director Rob Comiskey says they are honoured to have been recognised among industry leaders.
“As you can imagine, my family and I are incredibly honoured to have been recognised on a national scale by the hotel industry. There were some very strong finalists so to have taken the win in three categories is truly such a great feeling,” Rob says.
“Congratulations to all winners and finalists. These last few years have been challenging for our industry as a whole. It was nice to come together, catch up with other hoteliers and celebrate all our achievements.
“I am extremely proud of our team and look forward to celebrating with them when I am back in Queensland.
“Moreton Bay is now home to Australia’s Best Hotel. I am excited to bring these awards back home to our beautiful region. We thank the community for their ongoing support and hope we did Moreton Bay proud.”
Plenty more to come
2022 is set to be a big year for the Comiskey Group; these wins come not long after the family announced that their portfolio will double in size during the next couple of years with new venues and projects underway, including their first hotel on the Sunshine Coast - The Doonan, set to open later in the year.
“We thank the Australian Hotels Association for putting on such a great event as always and for their constant support,” Rob says.
“This is only the beginning for us, we have so many exciting things to announce over the next few months. Keep an eye out! But for now, we’ll be celebrating these wins with our amazing team.”
