Try a new activity in the school holidays

Skateboarding clinics, kayaking, camp cooking and yoga are among the amazing array of free and low-cost activities on offer across the Moreton Bay Region these school holidays.

Between June 27 and July 10, Moreton Bay Regional Council is offering more than 90 free and low-cost sport, recreation, adventure and wellness activities for children up to 18 years old to try a sport, learn something new, get outdoors, or have fun with friends under its Active Holidays program.

Here’s a taste of what’s on offer…

Free fitness class

Get moving and have fun with a free fitness class at My Martial Arts Australia at Caboolture on June 29 from 10.30-11.30am.

The session encourages team building and social interaction.

Inclusive activities

Succeed Healthcare Solutions are running young person-led activities at North Lakes with equipment including trampolines, basketball, warped wall, bouldering and rockclimbing.

There are three sessions available on July 1 and they cost $5.

De-stress with yoga

There’s yoga for children and teens at Bellara and Deception Bay and sound relaxation at Burpengary during the holidays.

Yoga has many benefits for teens and young people, including improved flexibility and strength, and reduced anxiety and stress.

Connect with nature

Get the kids out of the house and connecting with nature in a free morning of adventure at Mount Glorious.

The Greene Falls track is family friendly, winding its way through rainforest and following the many creeks that eventually spill over Greene Falls.

It’s a great place to spot pademelons and listen for the distinct calls of the cat bird or whip bird.

The track is graded 3 which means mixed walking surfaces - think gravel tracks, timber boardwalks and stairs) with a slightly steep gradient on the return journey to Maiala car park.

Kayak adventure

Explore local waterways in a kayaking adventure at Lake Kurwongbah in one of four sessions available during the holidays.

They’re aimed at kids aged 10-17 and are perfect for beginners or those with some experience and cost $5.

Fishing fun

Get hooked on fishing with a variety of sessions run by 2 Bent Rods.

There’s sessions for those aged 4+, 5-17 and 10-17 at locations such as Sandstone Point, Bellara and Deception Bay.

The sessions cost $5, with equipment and expert knowledge provided.

Skateboard skills

Gain confidence, get comfortable with your balance and learn a whole new set of skateboarding skills with excellent coaching.

There’s sessions at Redcliffe and North Lakes on July 2 and you need to bring your own skateboard and helmet and they cost $5.

Barefoot bowls

Try your hand at barefoot bowls with an afternoon on the green at the Bramble Bay Bowls Club.

The free session for kids 8-17 from 3-5pm on July 6 includes tuition.

Bike education

Learn to ride a pushbike safely on the road on a purpose-built enclosed bike education track.

The Kippa-Ring venue includes traffic lights, roundabouts and a range of obstacles and intersections.

The session is aimed at riders aged 8-12, costs $5 and is on June 29, 9.30-10.30am.
