Pine Rivers BMX Club has officially been granted a lease for a new facility being built at Nolan Park at Brendale.

Moreton Bay Regional Council approved the five-year peppercorn lease at this week’s Woodford Community Council Meeting.

The new Kenworth Place digs will replace the club’s current premises at England Park in Leichts Rd, which it has occupied since 1998.

Cr Mick Gillam (Div 8) told the meeting the new international-standard track at the Nolan Park facility, which also includes a clubhouse, lighting and spectator seating, had been 15 years in the making.

“I’m happy to see this come to fruition,” Cr Gillam said.

“We were originally working with Motorcycling Queensland to turn it (the Nolan Park site) into a motocross park but that fell through and we changed it to the BMX Club and they jumped at the chance.

Top class track

Cr Cath Tonks told the meeting she was thrilled to support the Pine Rivers BMX Club’s application for the lease.

“They do a fantastic job with all the kids and the competitions that they have,” she said.

“This area will be very well used and everyone’s wanting to get out on the track.”

Mayor Peter Flannery said the region would be home to a “top class” BMX facility when construction of the venue was finished this year.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the State Government.”

The Pine Rivers BMX Club will relinquish its England Park lease to take on Nolan Park.

After the club relocates, Council officers will consider succession options for the vacated lease area at England Park.
