Upgrade plans for major road

Latest plans for a four-lane, 1.2km upgrade of Caboolture River Rd have been released early by Moreton Bay City Council.

The move is to show residents, businesses and users of the road corridor what was in store from Morayfield Rd to Grant Rd.

Announced in 2021 as a priority Council road project, preliminary service relocations are likely to start in the second half of 2025, with road construction in 2026.

It comes as housing developments continue to grow along Caboolture River Rd.

“The community knows this growth in and around Caboolture will continue and many will have noticed site works for the new communities at Waraba,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.

“Almost 50 percent of community members told us, in the Moreton Says survey, traffic congestion is their top transport concern in the face of rapid population growth.

“Planning often entails difficult decisions and the challenges mount in places where there’s already been significant commercial and residential development.”

The upgrade will involve:

• Widening Caboolture River Rd between Grant Rd and Morayfield Rd to provide two traffic lanes in each direction (four lanes total) with a central median.

• Additional traffic turning lanes at key intersections.

• New traffic lights at the intersection of Amy and Kenneth Sts.

• Upgrading the existing traffic lights at Grant Rd and Morayfield Rd.

• Changing access at Ben St and Lorebury Dr to left in/left out only.

• New cycling and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road.

Mayor Flannery welcomed a new signalised intersection at Kenneth St, increasing safety and travel options for Morayfield State School's community.

“I am sure many families will take advantage of the wider shared footpaths and safer crossing points to cycle or walk students to school,” he said.

“Council is also working with the school and the Department of Education to come up with an improved car park design and school bus zone.”

Councillor Adam Hain (Div3) said the Morayfield Rd to Grant Rd section forms part of a broader program for the 4km from Caboolture River Rd to Crome Ct.

“Collectively, these works will provide surrounding communities with better amenities to benefit their daily lives,” he said.

Funded by Federal, State and Council, the project is subject to acquisition of some private land through negotiation or gazettal, in accordance with the Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
