Vital upgrade for "struggling" road
Early work will start this year on $80 million upgrades to a key road in Moreton Bay region.
Funding for the Caboolture River Rd project – over 1.2kms from Morayfield Rd to Grant Rd - is Moreton Bay City Council’s next three budgets.
It includes $71 million funding from the State Government, as part of the South East Queensland City Deal Growth Area Compact (GAC).
This is to help deliver infrastructure to the Waraba Priority Development Area and will be supplemented by $10 million from Council.
Mayor Peter Flannery thanked the State for its “vital funding” but wants more from Federal and State Governments to provide “essential infrastructure”.
That includes “construction of a Buchanan Road overpass, as well as delivery of crucial city shaping services such as improved public transport”.
Announced in 2021 and identified as a priority, the Caboolture River Rd upgrades involve:
• Widening Caboolture River Rd between Grant Rd and Morayfield Rd to provide two traffic lanes in each direction - (four lanes in total) with a central median
• Installing additional traffic turning lanes at key intersections
• Installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Amy and Kenneth Streets
• Upgrading the existing traffic lights at Grant Road and Morayfield Road
• Changing access at Ben Street and Lorebury Drive to left in/left out only
• Installing new cycling and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road.
Early work is scheduled for late 2025 including preparations for relocating utility services. Services relocations are expected early 2026, with road works in late 2026.
“It’s no surprise the surrounding area has flourished with more and more people calling it home, thanks to its housing options and lifestyle amenities,” Mayor Flannery said.
“The one thing that hasn’t changed is the road itself – with its two lanes struggling to meet the daily needs of residents and businesses, especially during peak hour.
“Council has allocated $75.7 million across three years to Caboolture River Rd for an improved four-lane solution and crucial step in preparing for the future.”
Councillor Adam Hain (Div 3) said the Morayfield Rd to Grant Rd section was part of a broader 4km program to Crome Ct.
“From Grant Rd to Crome Ct comprises two sections funded and delivered by developers via infrastructure agreements with City of Moreton Bay,” he said.
“Planning is in the early stages and timing to be determined.
“The works will also contribute to new communities at Waraba by ensuring new infrastructure matches and supports user needs and demands.”
