Walk to shine light on domestic violence

Eleven members of the Richardson and Wrench Caboolture team will walk 110km this month to raise awareness of domestic and family violence.

It’s for the Darkness to Daylight Challenge and the distance reflects the number of people whose lives are cut short, on average, each year across Australia.

Richardson and Wrench Caboolture Marketing Manager Ali Heeps says the real estate agency has been a long-time supporter of Challenge DV, which organises the event, and this will be the 9th year they take part.

The team will walk 100km in the lead-up to the Darkness to Daylight run event in Brisbane on May 31 where they will complete the final 10km.

Ali says Richardson and Wrench Caboolture and its owners, the Lachmund family, have donated more than $1m in the community through events and causes like this since 1994.

“We will be promoting our involvement and support for the cause through social media and word of mouth, and welcome the community to support our team through donation on the Darkness to Daylight website,” she says.

“R&W Caboolture will be primarily financially contributing to the event by covering the cost of our staff’s entry into the run. As a long-time supporter, we also support the cause/event continuously throughout the year by raising awareness.

“It does hold a special place in the Lachmund family’s hearts.”

What else the team is doing

Staff will be wearing T-Shirts to raise awareness of the event when conducting open for inspections and meetings with clients.

“We have a lot of clients and tenants say it’s great you’re supporting that cause and have asked for more information,” Ali says.

The team’s involvement in the event has also sparked conversations with tenants and clients who are in a domestic and family violence situation and need to access support. Ali says staff have been trained on how to refer them to other agencies.

Registrations close on May 22 for the May 31 event. Participants can complete 3km or 10km, enabling people of all ages and abilities to be involved.

People can also take part virtually, if they are unable to attend the event in person.
