Watch tower back at beach
Bribie Island Surf Lifesaving Club’s new watch tower will be available for patrol teams at Woorim beach this Christmas weekend.
Club president Jeff Butler says the 4.8m high tower’s internal fit-out will be completed next month and an official opening would then be held.
The $160,000 aluminium-frame tower has been built with help from Moreton Bay Regional Council and the State Government’s Works for Queensland program.
Safety first
It replaced the old tower which, being more than 30 years old, was deemed too old, unsafe and beyond economical repair.
The old tower was lifted from its beach-side position in September to make way for the new structure which will improve the safety of beachgoers and volunteer surf lifesaving teams.
Jeff Butler said at the time: “We are a volunteer organisation and find it pretty hard to raise funds.

The main stairs to the beach at Woorim have also been upgraded with $100,000 from the Works for Queensland fund.
