Winners’ names up in lights

The public votes and choice judges’ scores have been tallied and we can now reveal the winners of the inaugural Moreton Daily Christmas Lights in the Moreton Bay Region competition.

The competition was open to addresses across the Moreton Bay Region and entrants were asked to provide up to three images, when nominating.

There were 101 entries including residential, business, street and canal frontage from Kobble Creek to Bribie Island and the Redcliffe Peninsula to Arana Hills. Check out our interactive map.

The competition was presented by Moreton Daily with the support of sponsors Ausbuild, Slater + Gordon Lawyers and USC, along with media partners Nine News and Brisbane Kids.

A panel of nine judges used six criteria including storytelling, creativity and colour, use of space, originality, impact (wow factor) and tidiness to determine the winner and runner-up in the Judges’ Choice category.

The contest was so tight between the three finalists, that Ausbuild has chipped in an additional $1000, embracing the Christmas spirit and creating a third-place Judges’ Choice category prize.

Slater + Gordon Lawyers’s Kiran Birkin says "It's fantastic to see so many entrants in the first year of this competition. Everyone's gone to a great effort"

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism Chairman and Moreton Daily’s publisher Shane Newcombe says he’s been impressed by the high quality of entries and thrilled to see so many residents and business owners taking part.

“We’ve had everything from grand-scale displays to first-timers, who just wanted to have a go and spread some Christmas cheer. That’s what this competition is all about,” Shane says.

“Congratulations to the winners and a special thanks to our generous sponsors Ausbuild, Slater + Gordon Lawyers, USC and media partners Brisbane Kids and Nine News. Thanks also to our panel of judges – they certainly had a tough job.

“We’re excited to announce the competition will be back in 2022 - bigger and better. Start planning your displays now!”
