Work begins on $9m school hall

Construction is now underway on a new $9 million multi-purpose hall at Deception Bay State School.

State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting conducted the sod-turning with school leaders, Principal Melissa Perry, P&C President Natalie Geddes and construction workers.

“The hall will include a performance stage, a multi-purpose sports court, a multi-purpose room, amenities, a kitchen with kiosk, a foyer with reception/box office and storage areas, as well as two outdoor playgrounds,” Mr Whiting said.

“It will be a beautiful, modern building that will look great here and will be perfect for the performance and sporting needs of our students.

“Now the whole school can have an assembly in one place under cover.”

The project is being delivered by Evans Built and will support an average of eight jobs each year across the three years from 2021–22 to 2023–24.

The Queensland Government’s 2022-23 State Budget included $1.9 billion in infrastructure spending supporting almost 4200 jobs.
