Work starting soon on Ferny Way upgrade
Work to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, will soon begin at the intersection of Gordon Rd and Ferny Way at Ferny Hills.
Mayor Peter Flannery says the City of Moreton Bay will invest $6.8 million into the project, which is designed to improve road safety and reduce congestion.
“This vital project will see the Ferny Hills intersection undergo significant improvements including the installation of traffic lights, additional lanes, a shared cycle/pedestrian pathway and fauna crossings,” he says.
“Roads are one of our most critical and expensive assets, which is why Council continues to prioritise their maintenance and invest into crucial upgrades such as this one.”
Construction will start in late March, with plans in place to minimise the disruption to the community and local businesses. The work is expected to take nine months.
New fauna crossings
A Council spokesman says the upgrade will improve safety for all road users, including pedestrians, reduce peak hour delays and deliver safer manoeuvring when exiting Gordon Rd and turning right into Ferny Way.
The upgrade includes:
- Installing traffic signals
- Additional traffic lanes to separate through-traffic and turning traffic
- Providing signalised pedestrian crossings at the intersection
- Reconstructing footpaths, a new shared cycle/footpath linking Samford Rd and Gordon Rd, and pedestrian fencing
- Additional landscaping and street lighting
- Green infrastructure upgrades such as fauna crossings for wildlife to move safely around the intersection
- Road pavement reconstruction
