Work starts on new housing

The first sod has been turned on 60 new social and affordable homes which are being built in Margate.

Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer conducted a ceremonial start of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) project at 17 Wighton St.

These homes will be for locals who cannot afford the private market and vulnerable individuals and families on low incomes.

The project is being delivered through a partnership if Bric Housing, developer Traders in Purple, and impact investor Conscious Investment Management.

City of Moreton Bay has waived infrastructure charges, fast-tracked approvals and supported a parking plan for the site and residents.

“Funded through our $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund, the development will provide safe, secure, and affordable housing for people doing it tough,” Federal Member Emma Comer said.

“The development will deliver 60 new homes for local families, easing housing pressures and providing stability for those who need it most.”

A Bric Housing spokesperson said HAFF has unlocked the partnership to "bring much needed social and affordable homes to the Redcliffe Peninsula".

“Bric is proud to be providing these quality, well located homes to the local community,” the spokesperson said.

“The partnership builds on strengths of all of us to get these homes built and ready to occupy in a time of acute housing need.”

Mayor Peter Flannery said is delighted see the sod turned on this social and affordable housing project, "which will provide real housing solutions for vulnerable members of our community".

“This project is another example of Council working with government and community housing providers to deliver more social and affordable housing," he said.

“Council is set to waive almost $850,000 worth of infrastructure charges and development fees for Bric Housing to construct these homes as part of our Attraction of Affordable Social Housing Development policy.
