About Burpengary

Burpengary is one of Moreton Bay region’s fastest growing residential areas, situated on the Burpengary Creek and the Bruce Highway. This suburb is a hidden gem with a great selection of parks and playgrounds for families to head outdoors and explore nature in their own backyards.

There are two out-of-town shopping centres servicing the suburb; Burpengary Plaza and Burpengary Village Shopping Centre. A number of both State and Catholic Schools are located in Burpengary offering prep to year 12 education.

History of Burpengary

The name Burpengary, is derived from the Aboriginal word burpengar, meaning the place of the green wattle. Europeans settled in Burpengary in the 1870s, the first industry established was timber cutting.

The railway line through Burpengary to Caboolture was opened in 1888. Burpengary remained a rural village until the mid-twentieth century, when in the 1970’s Burpengary developed into an urban area with its position on the railway line desirable to city commuters.
