About Ningi

Ningi is a partly developed residential suburb on the doorstep of Bribie Island. The suburb is located west of Pumicestone Channel and Bribie Island extending to the eastern edge of Caboolture.

The main township of Ningi is located on Bribie Island Road. In the west are recent subdivisions, Eastwards along Bribie Island Road there is a shopping area, a public hall, a church and several housing other estates. At the northern area of Ningi is a housing estate called Bribie Pines, mostly inhabited by the elderly

The Ningi Creek Conservation Park has been established west of Ningi.

History of Ningi

Both the creek and the suburb were named after the Ningi Ningi Aboriginal group who were traditionally associated with Toorbul Point on the north side of the mouth of the creek.

It is thought the meaning of the suburb name from the Aboriginal Undanbi clan, the Ningi Ningi, meant 'oysters’.
