$50m hotel and shops plan in Dakabin

Plans for a $50 million hotel and shopping centre in Dakabin have been officially unveiled today by The Comiskey Group.

Construction will start early next year, on a 3.75ha site at the corner of Alma and Old Gympie Rds, on the development which includes a 2500sq m shopping centre and new stores, including a gym and café.

Among the outlets will also be a Guzman Y Gomez and KFC drive thru and a NightOwl service station.

“We are focusing on the food, looking to support locally grown produce where possible and deliver the unexpected to diners,” Comiskey Group Director Rob Comiskey said.

'Unique hotel'

“It’s going to be a unique hotel in offering and design, we’re meeting with architects to ensure it makes a statement.

“Dakabin Hotel will employ more than 50 staff across both full-time and casual positions, and the overall centre should see 250 job opportunities.”

The Comiskey Group, which built and runs the Eatons Hill and Sandstone Point Hotels, had its eyes on the land for years.

“The drawcard really was the site’s corner position on two major roads, as well as its close proximity to North Lakes,” Mr Comiskey said.

Major plans

“The high-volume location is a convenient place for the community to come, allowing for great exposure of our tenants.

“We are always on the hunt for opportunities in high growth areas and this was definitely one we couldn’t let pass us by.”

This announcement follows The Comiskey group's plans for a major hotel, festival site and entertainment venue just north of the Moreton Bay Region.

It’s future plans, featured by the Moreton Daily story last month, include a $35 million Aura Hotel, the largest hotel and music venue just south of Caloundra.

Double in size

Also, Coochin Fields, a new 150-hectare outdoor festival site just 10 minutes from Aura.

The wave of new announcements are part of the group’s plans to double its portfolio and number of employees – currently just under 400 - over the next two years.

Plans for a new Strathpine Hotel and Recreation Centre, corner of Kremzow and Gympie Rds have also been revealed recent and a Comiskey Distillery may soon be seen.

These will join the two major hotels, and four shopping centres, among others, in the Comiskey Group growing stable.
