Three down three to go for ACE

It’s three down and three to go for Albany Creek Excelsior (ACE) which completed a remarkable footballing double at the weekend.

ACE senior men and reserves have won their respective Brisbane Premier League premierships – both unbeaten over all 22 regular season matches.

The senior men lifted their title for a third time in four years with 19 wins and three draws. The Reserves went one better with 20 wins and two draws.

Club winners

That also ensured the Brisbane Clubs’ Championship (using a combined total of seniors and reserves points) returned to Wolter Park.

With three trophies tucked away, both ACE teams are now preparing for the end-of-season finals, which start next month.

“2021 has been a tremendous year for our club where we have also built on our senior women’s program and reach the finals of that competition,” ACE President Tony Dooley said.

“Our coaching and playing staff have shown remarkable composure and resilience and the success of our senior program is testament to the stability and loyalty the club has fostered with these groups over a sustained period of time.

Next challenge

“We all look forward to the club’s next challenge of finals football and then preparing for our promotion into FQPL2 next season where competition will be more testing.”

ACE may also have the Canale Cup in their locker this weekend, being in the final for the first time in the club’s 58-year history.

Moggill, from Capital League 1, one tier below the Premier Division, await in the final at Perry Park on Saturday (7.30pm)

It follows three losing semi-finals, to Rochedale in 2010, Peninsula Power 2017 and Grange in 2019.
